Women's Basketball 3/7/2025 10:34:46 PM Scranton Athletic Communications Scranton Women's Basketball Posts Dominant Win Over Mount Saint Mary in NCAA First Round SCRANTON, Pa. -- The University of Scranton women's basketball team defeated Mount Saint Mary College (NY) 93-35 in the opening round of the 2025 Division III NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament at the John Long Center. The Basics Final Score: No. 3 Scranton - 93, Mount Saint Mary - 35 Records: No. 3 Scranton (27-1), Mount Saint Mary (17-11) The Lady Royals will face Bates College (17-9) in the second round tomorrow at 6:45 p.m. Bates defeated Southern Virginia University 55-53 in tonight's first game. How it Happened Scranton got off to a strong start as junior Kaeli Romanowski drilled a corner three off an assist from classmate Kaci Kranson to put the Lady Royals up 3-0. Kranson and Romanowski recorded back-to-back steals with fast-break layups to give Scranton a 7-0 lead. Graduate student Maddie Hartnett connected from deep at the 7:23 mark in the first to extend the lead to 12-0. Romanowski capped off the 14-0 run with a steal and fast-break layup for Scranton. Sophomore Elizabeth Bennett hit a three-pointer with 3:27 remaining in the opening period to put the Lady Royals up 19-4. Scranton closed out the first quarter with a 20-point lead. Graduate student Kyra Quigley and Kranson scored consecutive layups to open up the second period. Quigley kept things rolling with two more buckets in the early stages of the second quarter. Hartnett hit her second three of the night at the 5:11 mark in the second to put Scranton up 38-10. Sophomore Meghan Lamanna and freshman Marisa Francione connected on back-to-back threes late in the first half to give their squad a 33-point advantage. Scranton led by 37 at the end of the first half. Lamanna opened the second half with a three, giving Scranton a 40-point lead. Sophomore Natalie Stoupakis and graduate student Allie Lynch each hit threes midway through the third period. Bennett hit a three to close out the third as Scranton led 73-36 with one quarter remaining. Seniors Morgan Brewer and Ashlyn Bender assisted each other on back-to-back buckets to start the fourth period. Francione and fellow freshman Selena Cieszko hit threes in the fourth as Scranton went on to win 93-35. Top Performers Bennett scored a game-high 14 and grabbed four boards. Romanowksi recorded nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Hartnett and Quigley each scored 8. Inside the Box Score Scranton shot 52.1% from the field and 43.3% from three. The Lady Royals scored 29 points off of turnovers. Scranton's bench outscored Mount Saint Mary's bench 56-12.
