Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

For the fall season, field hockey, football, soccer, and volleyball will be announced on Monday, followed by cross country, golf, and tennis on Tuesday.

  • Men: Fred Grote (Drew University)
Taking on a field of primarily Division I competition, Grote placed fifth to lead the Rangers at the NJIT Alumni XC Opener. He cruised the flat and fast 8K course in 26:55 and was the fourth collegiate finisher, including the second Division III harrier.

    Women: Tara Smurla (Moravian University)
Smurla ran a time of 22:12.7 on the 6,000-meter course to lead the Hounds with an eighth-place finish at the Lehigh University Invitational. Smurla was the first non-NCAA Division I runner to finish in the race, and the Greyhounds were the top non-NCAA Division I team in the meet.

  • Offensive: Shana Goldsmith (University of Scranton)
Goldsmith opened the 2025 season with a one-goal and two-assist performance. In Friday’s 3-2 overtime victory at Muhlenberg, Goldsmith set up the game-tying score in the fourth quarter with a well-placed flick to Annie Shaw. She followed that performance with another standout effort in Saturday’s 4-3 win over New Paltz, where she recorded both a goal and an assist. Goldsmith tied the game at 2-2, then assisted on the go-ahead goal just minutes later.

    Defensive: Isabella Bobé (Lycoming College)
Bobé was outstanding between the pipes, making six crucial saves and allowing just one goal to anchor Lycoming’s defense in a season-opening 3-1 victory over Washington & Jefferson. With the Warriors clinging to a 2-1 lead in the fourth quarter, Bobé came up with two pivotal stops to hold off a potential rally.

  • Offensive: Matt Capretto (University of Scranton)
Capretto wasted no time making an impact in The University of Scranton's men’s soccer season opener, scoring in the upset victory over No. 25 Messiah University. Capretto opened the scoring in the 9th minute, which gave the Royals momentum and proved to be the eventual game-winner.

Defensive: Charlie Smith (University of Scranton)
Smith delivered a standout performance to lead The University of Scranton men’s soccer team to a season-opening victory over No. 25 Messiah University. Smith turned away all seven shots on goal to earn the first shutout of the season.

  • Offensive: Jazzel Meikleham (University of Scranton)
Meikleham played a pivotal role in The University of Scranton women’s soccer team’s 2-0 opening weekend. In Friday’s season opener at Stockton, Meikleham scored the lone goal in the 65th minute, and on Saturday, she delivered two corner kicks that led directly to goals in Scranton’s 4-0 rout of Kean University.

Defensive: Aileen Carr (University of Scranton)
Carr was a key force on the back line as No. 13 University of Scranton women’s soccer opened its season with back-to-back shutout victories over Stockton and Kean on the road this past weekend. Carr anchored a defensive unit that allowed just three shots on goal in a 1-0 win over Stockton and followed that up by helping limit Kean to only two total shots, with just one on frame, in a dominant 4-0 victory.

  • Athlete: Molly Mishinkash (Juniata College)
Mishinkash was efficient in helping Juniata secure its 100th consecutive win in a 3-0 weekend. The middle hitter hit .651 while committing just one error over a total of 12 sets. She had double-digit kills in two of the three matches and hit .450 in every game. She additionally added nine blocks on the weekend.

    Defensive: Lucy Stern (Elizabethtown College)
Stern helped the team to two wins to open the season. She registered double-digit digs in both matches, including a career-high 27 digs against York (Pa.) for a 6.75 digs per set average on the weekend.
