Friday Focus with Nick Suraci

University of Scranton | Men's Soccer

TOWSON, Md. - Friday Focus is the Landmark Conference’s weekly student-athlete spotlight, giving us a chance to get to know the people who make up our conference both on and off the field.

This week, we’re catching up with University of Scranton men’s soccer student-athlete Nick Suraci, who reflects on overcoming two ACL tears, the lessons he’s learned through adversity, and how his Division III experience has prepared him for life beyond soccer. Nick also shares his academic interests as he pursues a master’s degree in accounting and offers advice on making the most of the college experience.

What are you studying, and how did you become interested in that field?
I am currently getting my Master’s in accounting at the University of Scranton. I’ve always been interested in working with numbers and problem-solving, so accounting felt like a natural fit for me.

What accomplishment are you most proud of, either academically, athletically, or personally, and why?
I would say I’m most proud of overcoming two ACL tears and being able to get back on the field after both. Going through the recovery process twice wasn’t easy, but it taught me a lot about perseverance and staying positive through adversity.

If you could go back to your first year of college, what advice would you give yourself?
I would tell myself to really enjoy every moment with my friends and teammates. College goes by a lot faster than you think, so make the most of the opportunities and experiences along the way.

How has athletics helped prepare you for life after college?
Athletics has taught me the importance of discipline, teamwork, and being able to handle adversity. I’ve learned how to push through challenges, manage my time, and work toward a common goal, which are all things I’ll carry with me after college.

What does being a Division III student-athlete mean to you, and how has that experience shaped who you are?
Being a D3 student-athlete means getting to compete in a sport I love while also focusing on my future outside of soccer. It’s taught me how to balance my priorities, stay committed, and appreciate the opportunity to be part of something bigger than myself.
