Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

For the fall season, field hockey, football, soccer, and volleyball will be announced on Monday, followed by cross country, golf, and tennis on Tuesday.

  • Offensive Athlete of the Week: Bella Fini (Drew)
    Bella Fini powered Drew to a perfect 2-0 week with four goals and two assists, including a hat trick that sparked an impressive comeback victory. Fini scored three times in Drew’s thrilling 4-3 win at Lycoming, finding the back of the cage twice in the fourth quarter to erase a 3-1 deficit and complete the Rangers’ rally. She followed with another goal and two assists in Drew’s 4-2 victory at Delaware Valley, contributing to all three of the Rangers’ first three goals.

    Defensive Athlete of the Week: Ruby Sorber (Scranton)
    Ruby Sorber delivered a standout performance in goal to help lead Scranton to a perfect 2-0 week, making 12 saves while coming up clutch in a top-25 upset. Sorber opened the week with 10 saves in Scranton’s victory over No. 17 Stevens before heading to the penalty shootout, going a perfect 3-for-3 on penalty saves to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory over the nationally ranked Ducks. She followed with two more saves in Saturday’s 6-1 win over Goucher, helping the Royals complete the unbeaten week. 
     

  • Offensive Athlete of the Week: Dylan Jackson (WestConn)
    Dylan Jackson powered WestConn to a dominant 29-0 victory over Moravian, delivering a standout performance through the air and on the ground. Jackson completed 16-of-21 passes for 327 yards and a touchdown, including six completions of more than 25 yards and four of at least 40 yards. His biggest play came on a 59-yard touchdown strike that helped fuel the Wolves’ offensive attack. Jackson also added 37 rushing yards on four carries, showcasing his versatility in the shutout victory. 

    Defensive Athlete of the Week: Luis Jaquez (WestConn)
    Luis Jaquez turned in a dominant defensive performance to lead Western Connecticut State to a 29-0 shutout of Moravian in the Landmark Conference football opener for both teams. Jaquez finished with seven tackles, a career-best four sacks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup, with all three forced fumbles recovered by the Wolves. He made his biggest impact in the first half, recording three strip sacks, including one where he ripped the ball directly from the Moravian quarterback and returned it several yards. Jaquez came up with another crucial strip sack on 4th-and-1 in WestConn territory early in the second quarter before forcing his third fumble late in the half with the Greyhounds threatening inside the Wolves’ 10-yard line. 

    Specialist Athlete of the Week: Gavin Damboise (WestConn)
    Gavin Damboise delivered a strong all-around performance in WestConn’s 29-0 shutout of Moravian, contributing in all three phases of the kicking game. Damboise connected on both of his extra-point attempts and drilled a 21-yard field goal, while also averaging 45.0 yards on two punts. He added six kickoffs for an average of 58.5 yards per kick, including two touchbacks, helping WestConn consistently control field position throughout the dominant victory.

  • Offensive Athlete of the Week: Drew Paxson (Scranton)
    Drew Paxson delivered a remarkable offensive performance from his center back position, accounting for all three of Scranton’s goals during a perfect 2-0 week. Paxson opened the week with two headed scores in Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Alvernia, then came through again Saturday, finding the back of the net for the game-winner in a 1-0 triumph over Goucher. 

    Defensive Athlete of the Week: Alex Kozdron (Scranton)
    Alex Kozdron played a pivotal role in Scranton’s perfect 2-0 week, assisting on all three of the Royals’ goals. Kozdron recorded two assists in Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Alvernia, setting up Drew Paxson for a pair of headed goals off free kicks. He came through again on Saturday, delivering the service on Paxson’s game-winning header in the second half to lift Scranton to a 1-0 victory over Goucher. 

  • Offensive Athlete of the Week: Claire Merrill (Scranton)
    Claire Merrill delivered a standout offensive performance in Scranton’s 5-0 victory over Goucher on Saturday, recording two goals and an assist to help power the Royals to a dominant win. Merrill found the back of the net twice, marking the first goals of her career with Scranton, while her assist gave her a career-best five points in the contest. 

    Defensive Athlete of the Week: Makenzie Van Arsdale (Scranton)
    Makenzie Van Arsdale anchored a dominant defensive week for Scranton, allowing zero goals across 145 minutes of action in a 1-0-1 week for the Royals. She opened the week with a standout performance against No. 22 NYU, making four saves to preserve a scoreless draw against the nationally ranked Violets. Van Arsdale then added 45 scoreless minutes in Saturday’s 5-0 victory over Goucher, helping Scranton to seal another win. 

  • Athlete of the Week: Maggie Hayes (Juniata)
    Maggie Hayes delivered an outstanding performance at the net, helping Juniata to a 1-1 weekend while totaling 20 kills and hitting an impressive .528. The middle hitter averaged 2.50 kills per set while adding two service aces and two block assists. Hayes was particularly dominant in Juniata’s sweep of Messiah, finishing with 11 kills on .611 hitting. She followed with nine kills and a .444 hitting percentage against No.23 John Hopkins, showcasing her consistency against a nationally ranked opponent.

    Defensive Athlete of the Week: Kinsey Reuwer (Elizabethtown)
    Kinsey Reuwer helped Elizabethtown go 3-1 on the week while moving to 2-0 in conference action. She totaled 12 blocks (three solo, nine assisted) for a 1.09 average across four matches.
