COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Scranton sophomore goalkeeper Ruby Sorber was named an honorable mention selection for the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Sorber helped the Royals to a 2-0 week, making 12 saves across the two victories. Her biggest performance came in Scranton's 4-3 shootout victory over No. 17 Stevens, where she made 10 saves through regulation and two overtime periods before stopping all three of Stevens' attempts in the penalty shootout to secure the win. Sorber also made two saves in a 6-1 victory over Goucher.
The weekly honor comes after Sorber earned her second straight Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week award on Monday.
The sophomore has been a key part of Scranton's recent success, helping the Royals extend their winning streak to five games.
