COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Drew University sophomore forward Karine Johnson was named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Rangers to a 2-0 week. Johnson scored three of Drew’s six goals, including two fourth-quarter game-tying goals in a 5-4 double-overtime road win at FDU-Florham and the game-winning goal in a 1-0 Landmark Conference-opening victory over Goucher.
Johnson first made her mark against FDU-Florham, scoring twice in the fourth quarter to help the Rangers force overtime before Drew secured the 5-4 victory in double overtime. She followed that performance by scoring the lone goal in the Rangers’ Landmark Conference opener against Goucher.
Johnson becomes Drew's second NFHCA Player of the Week in as many years, as classmate Bella Fini
earned the same award on Sept. 24 of last season.
Drew (3-5, 1-0 LC), which has won its last three games, returns to the field on Wednesday, when it visits Delaware Valley University at 7 p.m. in a non-conference affair.
