Mummert Reaches 1,000 Points, Helps Elizabethtown Advance to Landmark Championship

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Senior Makenna Mummert became the 33rd player in Elizabethtown College women's basketball team history to reach 1,000 career points in the second quarter of Thursday night's Landmark semifinal win at Susquehanna. Mummert had 20 points, one of three in double figures, as the Blue Jays moved on to face Scranton in the championship on Saturday.

No team led by more than five points until the fourth quarter, when Elizabethtown was able to open up its lead to seven, twice, on baskets by Ella Gordon and Mummert.

Mummert, who needed 12 points to reach the 1,000-point milestone, notched six in the opening quarter, including a layup with 11 seconds left for six first-quarter points. Then, with 1:46 to go before halftime, Mummert's second three of the game gave her 12 to hit 1,000 on the head.

The Blue Jays led 36-34 at the half.

Etown's three-point barrage continued into the third quarter, hitting three more after three apiece in each of the first two quarters. They'd end the game with a season-high 10 after not hitting more than eight in a game all season. Gordon had four of the team's 10 makes from deep.

While the Jays were able to build up a three-possession lead, Susquehanna fought back over the waning minutes of the fourth and eventually would grab the lead, though Elizabethtown would get it right back.

Ahead by one, 62-61, Gordon drilled two foul shots to extend the lead to 64-61. The River Hawks, the second-best three-point percentage team in the conference, could not hit a single one in the final minute of play, and the Blue Jays sank free throws to ice the game. Etown was 12-for-12 in the game, with Cadence Anderson hitting the final two.

Joining Mummert in double figures were Gordon (16 points) and Allyia Kennedy (14 points). Ellie Fasick grabbed 11 rebounds for EC.

Elizabethtown faces Scranton for the Landmark title on Saturday, February 28, at 2:00 p.m.
