Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

For the spring season, baseball, softball, and lacrosse will be announced on Monday, followed by golf, tennis, and outdoor track and field on Tuesday.

  • Men's Golf Athlete of the Week: Richard Essen (University of Scranton)
    Essen placed second at the Stevens Institute Invitational, firing a 73 (+2) to secure a runner-up individual finish.  Essen was steady throughout, opening with an even-par 36 on the front nine before carding a 37 on the back. He followed up that performance with a first-place finish at the Tri-Match with King's College and Wilkes University, where Essen posted a round of 70 (-1) to pace the Royals to a first-place finish.

    Women's Golf Athlete of the Week: Kennedy Petrovich (Susquehanna University)
    Petrovich delivered a standout performance at the East Stroudsburg Invitational held at Glen Brook Golf Club, helping lead Susquehanna to a program-record team score of 319 and a first-place finish in a field made up of Division II schools. Petrovich earned individual medalist honors with a 70 (-2), breaking her previous program record of 71 in the process.

  • Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week: Joey Kelly (Moravian University)
    Kelly helped Moravian to an undefeated week in Landmark Conference action. Kelly was 3-0 in singles action while playing in three different spots in the line-up, and he teamed up with senior Shayaan Farhad for a 3-0 mark in doubles play. In singles action, Kelly began the week with a 6-0, 6-2 win at sixth singles in a 5-2 win over Drew University, the Hounds' first over the Rangers since 2016. He had a 6-0, 6-2 victory at fourth singles in a 6-1 triumph over Susquehanna University, and Kelly finished the week with a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles during Moravian's 6-1 victory over Juniata.

    Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week: Ana Savkovic (Wilkes University)
    Savkovic helped Wilkes University to a strong week in Landmark Conference action as the Colonels earned a pair of conference victories. Savkovic went 3-0 in singles play at No. 1 singles while also teaming up with Julia Spaeth for a 3-0 mark at No. 1 doubles. In singles action, Savkovic opened the week with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Drew University. She followed that with a 6-4, 6-0 victory against Juniata College and closed the week with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Susquehanna University.

     

  • Men's Track Athlete of the Week: Matt Ellis (Drew University)
    Ellis helped lead the Ranges to a championship at the Battle of Madison Avenue, hosted by FDU-Florham. He won the 1500 against 12 competitors in 4:24.44 and finished third overall in the 800 (2:05.21), while also ranking as the top Division III runner in the field.

    Men's Field Athlete of the Week: Zach Mogambi (Drew University)
    Mogambi posted a first, second, and third-place finish to help lead the Rangers to the team title at the Battle of Madison Avenue, hosted by FDU-Florham. He captured the discus with a throw of 46.46 meters to beat out 15 other competitors and defeat his nearest collegiate competitor by over nine feet. He placed second in the shot put with a throw of 14.61 meters (47-11 1/4), which places him seventh regionally, and was third in the javelin with a toss of 41.68 meters (136-9).

    Women's Track Athlete of the Week: Sam Sharrow (University of Scranton)
    Sharrow turned in a record-breaking performance at the Coach Pollard Invitational. Sharrow set both a program and Landmark Conference record in the 100m preliminaries with a time of 12.04 seconds. She also helped lead the 4x100-meter relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 47.86 seconds, capping an outstanding all-around performance.

    Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Isabella Cowger (Elizabethtown College)
    Cowger delivered a strong showing at the Millersville Invitational, winning both the shot put and discus while also placing fourth in the hammer throw. Cowger broke her own school and conference record in the shot put with a mark of 13.28 meters (43'7"), moving her up to 26th in NCAA Division III. She also captured first place in the discus with a throw of 47.15 meters (154'8"), and added a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw at 41.50 meters (136'2").
