2020-21 Softball Athletes of the Week 2020-21 Softball Athletes of the Week All Preview Recap List View Grid View Athlete of the Week - Brooke Wehr, Moravian May 03, 2021 Senior Brooke Wehr hit safely in all eight games last week and was 14-for-28 while helping No. 9 Moravian to an 8-0 record to finish off an undefeated regular season. Wehr added three doubles and two triples for a .750 slugging percentage, and she had eight runs, eight RBI and two walks. In the field, Wehr had 37 putouts and two assists from behind the plate, and she also surpassed 150 career hits during the week. Pitcher of the Week - Madison Hummel, Moravian May 03, 2021 Sophomore Madison Hummel had a 4-0 week with two shutouts and a 0.50 ERA during an 8-0 week for No. 9 Moravian as the Greyhounds completed an undefeated regular season. Hummel had 14 strikeouts in 28 innings, and she also had seven assists in the field in seven chances. Hummel allowed just 15 hits and six walks during her week. Athlete of the Week - Sarah Stepnowski, Scranton April 26, 2021 Scranton freshman Sarah Stepnowski multiple hits in five of the six games the Royals played in on the week to bat .611 overall. She posted three doubles, three RBI, and had a .778 slugging percentage. Overall, she has been impressive throughout her freshman year, batting .560 with five doubles, four triples and 14 RBI for the year. Pitcher of the Week - Jennifer Sweeney, Scranton April 26, 2021 Despite losing just her second game of the season in the circle on Thursday at Moravian, Scranton senior Jennifer Sweeney came back in a big way over the weekend against Catholic, having a hand in all four victories the Royals notched over the Cardinals. In the games she started, she tossed back-to-back complete games shutouts, allowing two hits on Saturday and three on Sunday. In the second game of each doubleheader, Sweeney was called on in relief and slammed the door on Catholic twice, earning a win on Saturday and a save on Sunday. On the week, she struckout 12 batters. Athlete of the Week - Juliet Lodes, Catholic April 19, 2021 Catholic senior Juliet Lodes went 9-for-13 on the weekend for a .692 batting average in two double headers against Elizabethtown. Lodes totaled five doubles, two home runs and six RBI. She started all four games at first base, ending the weekend with 33 total put outs for the Cardinals. Pitcher of the Week - Bailey Comeau, Drew April 19, 2021 Drew sophomore Bailey Comeau tossed a three-hit shutout in The Rangers 3-0 victory over Susquehanna. She did not yield a hit through the first 3 1/3 innings and allowed just three baserunners over the first six innings. Comeau tied her season-high with six strikeouts en route to her first career shutout. Athlete of the Week - Ajala Elmore, Moravian April 12, 2021 Moravian freshman Ajala Elmore made her collegiate debut a memorable one as she went 3-for-5 with four RBI, a double and a run scored as No. 15 Moravian rallied in both games to sweep previously undefeated The Catholic University of America, 4-3 and 5-4. In the opener, Elmore's first collegiate at-bat was a two-RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. In the seventh inning, she drew a leadoff walk and scored the winning run on Maddisen Bieber's bases loaded, walkoff RBI single. In the second game, Elmore was 2-for-3 with a double and two more RBI. Elmore was the designated player in the second game, and she had a putout and three assists while playing second base in the opener. Pitcher of the Week - Cate Baran, Juniata April 12, 2021 Juniata freshman Cate Baran had a stellar outing for the Eagles last week, racking up 14 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched. In the first game against Catholic, Baran allowed just one run on three hits while fanning five. In the start against Elizabethtown on Saturday, the rookie struck out a season-high nine batters. Athlete of the Week - Jennifer Sweeney, Scranton April 05, 2021 After not playing for almost two weeks, Scranton senior Jennifer Sweeney and the Royals came back in a big way on Saturday, rolling to a doubleheader sweep of Drew in which they run-ruled the Rangers in both games. In game one, she sent her only hit over the outfield wall for a two-run home run, her second of the year and 20th of her career. In the second game, Sweeney went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Pitcher of the Week - Brooke Wiarda, Susquehanna April 05, 2021 Senior Brooke Wiarda earned a pair of wins in a 3-1 week for Susquehanna. Wiarda gave up only one run on three hits between the two games for a 0.78 earned run average. She registered seven total strikeouts, including a career-best four in the 11-0 win against Elizabethtown. Athlete of the Week - Renata Primmer, Drew March 29, 2021 Drew University junior Renata Primmer hit .714 (5-for-7) to help the Rangers to a doubleheader sweep of Elizabethtown. She went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the opener before going 3-for-4 in the second game. Pitcher of the Week - Bailey Comeau, Drew March 29, 2021 Drew University sophomore Bailey Comeau pitched a pair of 8-inning complete games to lead the Rangers to a doubleheader sweep of Elizabethtown. She fired a 2-hitter in the opener, when she struck out six and did not walk a batter in a 2-1 Drew victory. After allowing an unearned run in the first inning she was nearly perfect the rest of the way, retiring 22 of the final 23 batters she faced, including her final 17. Comeau also tossed an eight-hitter in the nightcap, when she had four strikeouts as the Rangers won 5-4 on their second walk-off of the day. Athlete of the Week - Jennifer Sweeney, Scranton March 22, 2021 University of Scranton senior Jennifer Sweeney put together a strong weekend in her first game action in over a year, leading the Royals to a four-game sweep of Elizabethtown. She went 11-of-15 with three doubles, a grand slam home run, and seven RBI. Additionally, she also scored seven runs in the two-day series. Pitcher of the Week - Madison Hummel, Moravian March 22, 2021 Moravian sophomore Madison Hummel had a 3-0 week in the circle for No. 19 Moravian with a 0.93 ERA, seven strikeouts and just one walk in 15 innings of action. Hummel started the week with one strikeouts in three innings in the Greyhounds' 11-1, five-inning win at Gwynedd Mercy University. She tossed her first complete game of the season on Saturday in Moravian's 5-3 win over Juniata College when she had four strikeouts and no walks in seven innings of work. Hummel finished the weekend with her first collegiate shutout as she scattered six hits and had two strikeouts in a 10-0, five-inning win at Juniata.
