Men's Indoor Track & Field All-Conference Announced

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference announced its 2023 Men's Indoor Track & Field All-Conference Team and major award winners on Wednesday afternoon.

The All-Conference teams are based on finishes at the championships. First-place finishes garner First-Team while second-place finishes earn Second-Team honors. The major awards are nominated and voted on by the league's head coaches after the meet.

Track Performer of the Year: Myron Holland (Elizabethtown College)

Field Performer of the Year: Joey Masser (Susquehanna University)

Rookie of the Year: Austin Hurrell (Susquehanna University)

Coaching Staff of the Year: Susquehanna University (Ethan Senecal)

Holland had a record-breaking day with three gold medals on Saturday. First, in the 60-meter dash preliminaries, the junior was just shy of setting the conference record, finishing his heat with a time of 6.88. Then, in the event final, Holland turned up the speed, breaking both the championship and overall records with his time of 6.79. The overall record was set in 2011 by Moravian University's Eric Woodruff (6.87), while the championship record was set in 2013 by Susquehanna University's Kwane Hayle (6.92).

He came back in the 200-meter dash with a personal record time of 22.50 to win his second gold medal of the day. He closed out his afternoon with another gold, this time as a member of the 4x200-meter relay team. The team crossed the finish line with a time of 1:32.73.

Holland is now the third Blue Jay to be named Track Performer of the Year. He joins Andrew Lesko (2017) and Ean Mann (2020).

Masser shined on Saturday, winning three total medals (two gold, one silver). In the 60-meter hurdles, the junior broke the championship record, previously set in 2018 by Moravian University's John Spirk (8.26) by running an impressive 8.16. He earned his second gold medal of the day with another record-breaking performance, this time in the long jump. Masser set a new championship mark with a leap of 7.24 meters. He earned his silver medal in the triple jump with a mark of 14.22 meters.

Masser joins an elite club of River Hawks to be voted the conference Field Performer of the Year. The honor is the second of his career after first being named in 2022. He joins Bobby Eppleman (2010), Ken Schetroma (2011, 2012), and Chris Petraskie, who won the award in all four years at SU (2017-20).

Hurrell is the second straight Rookie of the Year for the River Hawks. Last year, teammate Brandon Zimmerman was honored. He is also the seventh SU student-athlete to be named.

The rookie had a standout first-ever collegiate championship, earning two top-10 finishes. Hurrell earned his first medal in the 60-meter dash, claiming bronze after running a 7.16. He then placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.55 meters.

The SU coaching staff took home their second straight Coaching Staff of the Year award under the direction of head coach Ethan Senecal. Senecal and his staff guided the River Hawks to their second straight conference title with 215 total points.
