Rigby Honored as Men's Basketball Senior Scholar-Athlete

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar-athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.

Nick Rigby of Juniata College becomes the fifth Eagle to earn Men's Basketball Senior Scholar-Athlete accolades. He joins Brian Scholly (2014), Marcus Lee (2018), Brandon Martinazzi (2019), and Jake Holsopple (2020).

This season, Rigby appeared in all 28 games with two starts, serving as one of the side's most consistent options off the bench. He was third on the team in field goal percentage (47.9%) among players who saw at least ten minutes per game, third in free throw percentage (78.7%), third in points per game (7.7), and fourth in rebounds per game (3.4).

Over his collegiate career, Rigby appeared in 87 games, starting in 30. He totaled 591 points, 95 rebounds, 34 assists, and 16 steals while posting a 49.7% field goal percentage, 26.6% three-point percentage, and 74.7% free throw percentage. 

In the classroom, Rigby carries a 3.93 grade point average as an undergraduate finance major. In addition to taking undergraduate classes, Rigby is pursuing his master's, with a GPA of 4.00.

A member of the Tau Pi Phi Business Honor Society, Rigby will be participating in the society's 2023 Business Case Competition in Pittsburgh later this month. He was also the recipient of the Leonard L. Fuoss '47 Scholarship, which is awarded to worthy JC students entering their senior year who has demonstrated excellent academics.

Rigby was most recently named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team and has made the college's Dean't List from 2019-2023.

Outside of being a student-athlete at JC, Rigby has gained professional experience. He interned with Emerald Asset Management as a Research Financial Analyst where he assisted Emerald's research team and portfolio management staff in conducting bottom-up research on publicly traded companies. He also performed a deep analysis of company financial statements, built financial models, and met with company management teams.

He has actively managed the Juniata College Eagle Fund since August 2022. The fund is a student-managed investment fund of over $200,000 designed to develop the skills and knowledge needed to be a successful portfolio manager. He guides weekly meetings with colleagues to discuss market trends, portfolio adjustments, and performance details to facilitate new investment strategies to address areas of underperformance.
