NEWPORT NEWS, Va.-- The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team (14-6) was defeated 22-9 by Gettysburg (13-4) in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse tournament on Friday evening in Newport News, VA.
The Royals had a historic season that featured the program's first Landmark Conference title since 2011 and just the second in program history.
Senior captain Christopher Crapanzano capped off his stellar career at Scranton with a game-high four goals.
Scranton got things going early as they scored the opening three goals of the game. Crapanzano, senior Mitchell Kozak, and freshman Pat McCormack all got on the score sheet in the first period as the Royals held a 4-3 lead headed into the second quarter.
The Bullets outscored Scranton 9-2 in the second period as they held a six-goal lead headed into halftime.
Gettysburg continued to add to its tally in the second half as the Bullets went on to win by a final score of 22-9.
Sophomore Colin Hughes scored a pair of goals for Scranton while Kozak and junior Joe Boyle each added a goal and an assist on the night. Senior Matt Solleder dished out three assists while freshman goalkeeper Declan Allen made 14 saves.
