Catholic Men's Soccer Draws Ohio Wesleyan for NCAA Opening Round Game

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After capturing its seventh Landmark Conference title in program history on Saturday, the Catholic men's soccer team found out where it was heading for the upcoming NCAA Tournament on Monday afternoon. The Cardinals are heading to Fredericksburg, Va. to take on the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan, hosted by Mary Washington. More information on the game, such as live links, will be announced soon.

The Cardinals are making their fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, after winning their fourth Landmark title in the last five seasons. Catholic holds a 3-7-1 record all-time in the NCAA's, coming off a 2-1 loss to SUNY Oneonta last season at Lynchburg in the first round.

Catholic's deepest run in the tournament came in the 2022 season when they went into the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history, picking up victories over Lynchburg and Christopher Newport both by scores of 2-0 before falling to Johns Hopkins in the Sweet 16. The Cardinals advanced past the opening round on one other occasion, 2014, when they took down Coast Guard 2-0.

The other two teams in the region are the hosts Mary Washington (17-1-2), the champions of the Coast-2-Coast Athletic Conference as they will take on William Peace (9-6-3), who were the champs of the USA South with a 2-1 win over Brevard College to earn the automatic bid.

The only team that the Cardinals have NCAA experience against is the Battling Bishops, who defeated Catholic 1-0 in 2010. Catholic is quite familiar with the Eagles in program history holding a 6-32-5 record all time against Mary Washington. Catholic has never matched up with William Peace in the history of the programs.

Catholic's tilt with Ohio Wesleyan is scheduled for Saturday, November 16 at the Battleground Athletic Complex. The match is set to start at 1:30 pm.
