Gaspers Selected as the Women's Indoor Senior Scholar-Athlete

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference selects 23 senior scholar-athletes annually, recognizing student-athletes in each sport, and considering both academic and athletic achievements.

Senior Scholar-Athlete History

These honorees must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are chosen by a committee comprising Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, athletic communications personnel, and diversity, ethnicity, and inclusion designees.

Apolline Gaspers becomes the first student-athlete since 2016 to achieve the title of the league's Senior Scholar-Athlete, following in the footsteps of Erin Schlegel.

Despite her relatively brief tenure of three years at the university, Gaspers is set to graduate early, a testament to her exceptional academic prowess.

With an impressive 3.94 grade point average, she majors in economics with minors in computer science and politics. Gaspers' academic achievements include being named a College Sports Communicators (CSC) All-District selection (2022-23), consistently earning Dean's List with Distinction honors throughout her time at Catholic, being recognized as a Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection, and holding memberships in both the University's Honors Program and the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.

Demonstrating a deep commitment to community engagement, Gaspers has held various leadership roles, including Co-Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) in 2022 and 2023, Treasurer of the University's United Nations Club (2022-23), and Event Director for the International Affairs Club in 2021-22. She has also actively participated in community service initiatives such as the Mother Teresa Day of Service and Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

Notably, Gaspers orchestrated a remarkable fundraising effort, raising over $15,000 for the "Girl Up & Power in Pink 5k," which supports women's shelters, breast cancer research, and educational opportunities.

On the track, Gaspers's accomplishments are equally impressive. She has earned Landmark All-Conference selections twice, securing First Team honors by clinching victory in the mile at the indoor meet in 2024 and receiving Second Team recognition in 2023 as part of the Distance Medley Relay squad.

Adding to her accolades, Gaspers recently set a new program and conference record in the DMR with a remarkable time of 11:51.84, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication to excellence in athletics.
