TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference announced its 2024 Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference Teams and award winners on Tuesday afternoon.
All-Conference selections are determined by performances at the conference championships. Athletes achieving first-place are given First Team status, while those securing second-place finishes earn Second Team recognition, and third-place finishers receive Honorable Mention.
Track Performer of the Year: Abby Giamoni (Moravian University)
Field Performer of the Year: Maggie Boyer (Susquehanna University)
Rookies of the Year: Brigid Byrnes (Catholic University) & Jocelyn Smith (University of Scranton)
Coaching Staff of the Year: Catholic University
Giamoni contributed 23 points to the Greyhounds' success at the 2024 outdoor meet. She secured gold medals in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dash events and played a role in the third-place finishes of both the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. As a junior, she continues the tradition of excellence as the third consecutive Moravian athlete to be named Track Performer of the Year, following in the footsteps of former teammate Crystal Robinson (2022, 2023). Furthermore, she joins the ranks of Greyhound athletes as the seventh recipient of this honor overall.
Boyer secured her second Outdoor Field Performer of the Year title, having previously earned the honor in 2022. The senior athlete won the hammer throw with a distance of 43.88 meters on Saturday. She followed up this achievement on Sunday with a second-place finish in the shot put, achieving a season-best distance of 11.92 meters. Additionally, Boyer placed seventh in the discus event with a throw measuring 32.61 meters. This marks the third consecutive year that the River Hawks have produced a Field Performer of the Year, with Boyer in 2022 and Remi Acord in 2023.
Byrnes continues the tradition of excellence for the Cardinal track and field program, becoming the third rookie in the past five years to earn the Rookie of the Year title. In her debut season, she made her mark by securing her first medal with a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles event, clocking in at 15.69. Brynes then set a new championship meet record in the 400-meter hurdles, claiming the gold with an impressive time of 1:03.71, etching her name into the conference record books.
Smith clinches back-to-back Rookie of the Year honors, continuing her impressive streak after previously earning the indoor accolade. Her outstanding performances include winning the gold in the 100-meter dash, achieving runner-up status in the 200-meter dash, and contributing to the second-place finish of the 4x400-meter relay team. Additionally, Smith was part of the 4x100 meter relay team, which secured a respectable fourth-place position. She follows in the footsteps of Caroline Banas, becoming the second Royal to receive the Rookie of the Year award for outdoor track since Banas was honored in 2018.
Led by head coach Steve Rahn, the coaching staff of the Cardinal women's team was voted the Coaching Staff of the Year award at the outdoor meet. With a total of 174 points, the Cardinals outperformed both Moravian University and pre-championship favorite Susquehanna University, becoming only the third program in Landmark history to clinch an outdoor title.
