Friday Focus with Bryan Kerchner

TOWSON, Md. – Every Friday, the Landmark Conference spotlights one of our standout student-athletes in the Friday Focus series. This week’s feature highlights Bryan Kerchner, a senior on the Moravian University men’s cross country team. From his love of running to his favorite movie quote, Bryan shares what makes his Greyhound experience unforgettable.

Why did you choose Moravian University?

I chose Moravian because of its warm and welcoming environment. I remember meeting with the cross country team on my recruiting visit and feeling like I could see myself being a part of this team. I also found what I was looking for academically, and I really liked the program and campus.

What’s something you’ve learned from being part of a team?

I’ve learned what it means to work hard and to work with other people toward a common goal.

Most challenging part of balancing athletics and academics?

Learning to manage my time and making sure to prioritize academics over athletics.

Who do you play for — what or who drives you?

I play for myself, my teammates, my coaches, and to ultimately glorify God in my sport.

Favorite Landmark Conference opponent, and why?

Drew University because of Kate Rice.

If your sport had walk-up music, what would be yours?

"Hells Bells."

What’s one thing you’re proud of off the course?

My basketball skills.

Best piece of life advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t take yourself too seriously.

Favorite movie quote or show line you always say?

Speed. I am speed.– Lightning McQueen.

First time you knew you loved your sport?

In the summer of my first year of high school, I realized how much I truly loved running and being a part of a team with such amazing people. Running on a team is an experience like no other, and I’m grateful to be able to participate in cross country.

Favorite place on campus to relax or recharge?

The dining hall — I love to eat, and I always enjoy talking with my friends.

Favorite song before a competition?

I usually don’t listen to music before competing, but if I had to pick, probablyEverybody Wants to Rule the World.”
