Field Hockey 11/4/2025 9:57:51 PM Scranton Athletic Communications Scranton Field Hockey Headed to Landmark Championship after 3-2 Semifinal Victory SCRANTON, Pa. -The University of Scranton field hockey team advanced to the Landmark Conference Championship after a thrilling 3-2 victory against Wilkes University in Tuesday night's Landmark Semifinal contest at Weiss Field. The Basics Final Score: Scranton 3, Wilkes 2 Records: Scranton (16-3, 9-0 Landmark), Wilkes (10-11, 4-5 Landmark) How it Happened Scranton put on the pressure in the first half against Wilkes, but the Colonials' defense stood tall. Olivia Gayoski made a key defensive save to keep Scranton off the board in the first quarter, and Chloe Gilroy made six saves in net in the first two quarters as the game went to halftime in a scoreless tie. Wilkes broke the ice three minutes into the third quarter as Georgia Baskett snuck behind the Royals' defense to score and give Wilkes a 1-0 advantage. With under a minute to go in the third period, sophomore Lydia Bechtel found Maggie Keys, who scored on a beautiful back-handed shot to tie the game at one apiece. The Royals took their first lead of the night with 7:35 left to go in the game when senior Annie Coll grabbed a rebound and pushed it through to make the score 2-1. Keys added the all-important insurance goal 1:20 later as she carried the ball through the Wilkes' defense and fired a bullet into the back of the cage from the top of the circle to extend Scranton's lead to 3-1. Wilkes' Maddie Karp got the Colonels back within one goal as she scored on a penalty corner attempt with under five minutes to play to cut Scranton's lead to 3-2. The Colonels earned themselves a penalty corner with just 27 seconds left in the game, but the Royals' defense was able to keep them off the board to win the game 3-2.
