Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

For the winter season, men's and women's basketball will be announced on Monday, followed by swimming and diving, and indoor track and field on Tuesday.

  • Men's Athlete of the Week: Sammy Tornabene (University of Scranton)
    Sammy Tornabene delivered a pair of standout performances to lead The University of Scranton men’s basketball team to victories over Ursinus College and Nazareth University at the York Spartan Classic. Tornabene scored 15 points with five rebounds in an 89–77 win over Ursinus before following with a dominant 30-point, 13-rebound performance against Nazareth. He averaged 22.5 points and nine rebounds on the week, and shot .750 from the field.

    Women's Athlete of the Week: Julia Roth (Susquehanna University)                                                 Julia Roth pulled down her 500th career rebound and posted three double-doubles in Puerto Rico while leading the River Hawks to three pivotal wins this week. Against Eastern, Roth scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. She then scored 11 points to go along with 11 rebounds against Union, while also recording her third double-double of the week against Montclair State, including the game-winning basket after scoring 20 points with 12 rebounds in the 63-61 victory.
