Scranton Men's Lacrosse Falls to Washington & Lee in NCAA Second Round, 20-9

LEXINGTON, Va. - The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 8 Washington and Lee University, 20-9, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Wilson Field.

The Basics:
How it Happened:
  • Washington & Lee struck early, scoring twice in the opening five minutes.
  • The Royals responded at the 4:14 mark when sophomore Thomas Popolizio found the back of the net to make it 2-1.
  • After the Generals pushed the lead back to 3-1, sophomore Brendan Donohue kept Scranton within striking distance, scoring with 2:33 left in the first quarter to cut the deficit to one.
  • W&L scored seven consecutive goals in the second period, stretching their lead to 11-3 by halftime.
  • The Generals added six more in the third to extend the margin to 17-3 before sophomore Myles McCutcheon scored off a feed from junior Pat McCormack.
  • The Royals showed their fight in the fourth quarter, outscoring W&L 5-3 down the stretch.
  • McCutcheon notched two more goals to complete the hat trick, while junior Kyle Holmes scored back-to-back goals just 1:19 apart to cut the deficit to 19-6.
  • Junior Jason Kozak added a goal and two assists, including helpers on both of McCutcheon's fourth-quarter tallies.

Season in Review:

  • Scranton closes out the 2025 season with a 12-9 overall record, marking the program's third NCAA Tournament appearance and second tournament win in three years. The Royals also won their third straight Landmark Conference Championship.
