Women's Golf 5/13/2025 8:13:35 PM Catholic Athletic Communications Lauren Wright Leads Catholic on Day One of NCAA Championships as Play Halts WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - On a rainy day that saw nearly five hours of delays, Catholic completed the first round of the NCAA Championships at Kingsmill Resort - Plantation Course on Tuesday. Lauren Wright was the top player for the Cardinals, shooting a 79 (+7) in tough conditions on the 5,817-yard par-72 course. Wright got off on the right foot, paring six of the first eight holes to a front-nine 38. She finished the day with 12 pars, five bogeys, and one double-bogey. She sits in 78th overall with many student-athletes yet to finish the first round when play was stopped for the day. Gabi Courtney and Brooke Smith each shot 87 (+15) while Lauren Lombardo recorded an 88 (+16). Courtney had six pars on the day while Smith finished with seven pars and one of Catholic's three birdies on the day. Smith came down the stretch well, finishing par, par, birdie. She birdied the 295-yard par-four 18th to complete her round. Lombardo recorded a birdie on the 340-yard par-four seventh. Avery Mrak shot 93 (+21) for the Cardinals, adding a birdie on the 420-yard par-five 10th. With 24 teams still yet to finish, Catholic sits in the 30th. The teams that did not complete the first round are scheduled to take the course at 8 a.m. tomorrow in hopes of all 34 teams completing 36 tournament holes by the end of the day.
