Get to Know Kevin Robinson; Vice President for Athletics and Recreation

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference is excited to highlight the leaders guiding our student-athletes. This month’s Q&A features Kevin Robinson, the Vice President for Athletics and Recreation at Catholic University. From the journey that led him to college athletics to his favorite part of game day, Robinson offers a look inside the world of college athletics leadership.

What led you to a career in college athletics?
My passion for a career in college athletics began when I was born. I grew up on a college campus, and when it came time to pursue a career, it became very obvious that I wanted to remain on a college campus, helping young people become the best version of themselves. It started with coaching and then eventually led to administration. There is something very special about watching a young person move from their teenage years to adulthood. The amount of growth and development that occurs in the four years in college is incredible, and I love being part of that evolution.

What’s your favorite part of your current role?
GAMEDAY!!! It's awesome watching our student-athletes compete wearing the Cardinal Red. Obviously, the wins are great, but watching how our student-athletes show their resiliency after tough losses is a favorite part of my role. Also, I really enjoy coaching the coaches. Helping our coaches figure out solutions to their issues, and how to find different ways to success, is very enjoyable for me.

How do you define success in your work?
Defining success in athletics is about impact. How are you positively impacting those you serve - are you giving them the tools to be the best version of themselves, to continue to evolve each day? Success, for me, comes from growth. Do our students leave Catholic as better people, ready to go serve society? That to me defines success.

How does your department celebrate student success?
EGBS!!! Energy Giving Behaviors! We give all the energy we can to our student-athletes because of the energy they give us. We celebrate our student success by making sure it is recognized with high levels of energy.

Favorite Landmark Conference memory or event?
Oh man, that is a tough one! We have had so many over my two years at Catholic. I will have to say that our Landmark Track & Field Championships and Swimming & Diving Championships always create great memories because of the high level of energy that exist at those Championships. Winning Landmark titles in Men's Hoops (2024) and Men's Soccer (2024) at home have been awesome memories as well.

Best part of being at Catholic University?
Our student-athletes! They are some of the most incredible people I have come across in my life. Their character and commitment to being the best version of themselves are at such a high level. They bring passionate energy to all aspects of their life. They are truly an inspiration to me each and every day.

What’s your go-to coffee order or campus snack?
I am a tea guy - so 32-ounce black tea, hot or cold, is my go to order.
