Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

For the spring season, baseball, softball, and lacrosse will be announced on Monday, followed by golf, tennis, and outdoor track and field on Tuesday.

  • Baseball Athlete of the Week: Nick Fiorini (Elizabethtown College)
    Fiorini turned in a big week at the plate, helping power the Blue Jay’s offensive production across multiple games as they went 3–1 on the week. The sophomore hit .538, going 7-for-13 with one double, one home run, and nine RBIs while drawing three walks. His week was highlighted against No. 8-ranked Shenandoah by going 2-for-3 with an RBI in the 9–4 win.
     

    Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Nick Garbooshian (Drew University)
    Garbooshian fired seven scoreless innings in Drew's 10-0 victory over Moravian. He allowed just three hits and three walks while racking up a career-high nine strikeouts against 23 batters. He finished his outing by striking out Moravian’s No. 3 hitter with the bases loaded in the seventh inning, preserving the Rangers’ 5–0 lead.

  • Softball Athlete of the Week: Samantha Derickson (Moravian University)
    Derickson led the Greyhounds at the plate during a 6-0 week at Blue & Grey Field. Derickson hit .500 as she went 9-for-18 to go with four runs, two doubles, a triple, and four RBIs. She had a .722 slugging percentage to go with a .550 on-base percentage, and Derickson recorded nine putouts and 19 assists in 28 chances at shortstop. She hit safely in all six games as Derickson was 3-for-7 in a sweep of York College of Pennsylvania, 3-for-6 versus FDU-Florham, and 3-for-5 against Elizabethtown College.

    Softball Pitcher of the Week: Sarah DeStefano (Moravian University) 
    DeStefano went 3-0 in the circle to help Moravian to a 6-0 week. DeStefano had a 0.70 earned run average with a shutout and 16 strikeouts in 20 innings of work. DeStefano scattered three hits and struck out six in a 2-0 win over York College (Pa.), and she earned a 5-3 victory over FDU-Florham with four strikeouts. DeStefano finished the week with a six-strikeout performance in a 5-1 win versus Elizabethtown College.
