Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

For the fall season, field hockey, football, soccer, and volleyball will be announced on Monday, followed by cross country, golf, and tennis on Tuesday.

  • Men: Jack Thompson  (Wilkes University)
    Jack Thompson led Wilkes at the Cougar Classic 8K with a time of 28:05.00, earning him a second-place individual finish.

    Women: Olivia Sobkowicz (Catholic Univeristy)
    Sobkowicz finished in eighth place in the 6K at the Cantello Invitational over the weekend. She clocked in at 23:23.9 to top all DIII runners in the field and finish in the top 10. 

  • Men: Jonny Zadravec (Susquehanna University)
    Zadravec shot a 67 Monday during round two of the Dickinson Invitational. One stroke off the school record set by Mitch Mercer back in 2011. His score led to a team scoring record of 287.

    Women: Kyleen McCance (Wilkes University)
    Kyleen McCance shot a match-low 74 to earn medalist honors as Wilkes women’s golf defeated King’s and Marywood 379-409-446 in a tri-match on Saturday.

  • Men: Jake Hershey (Catholic University)
    In his first weekend of collegiate action, Jake Hershey shined for Catholic, going 4-0 over two matches in a 3-0 weekend for the Cardinals. Hershey collected his first career doubles win at Dickinson in convincing fashion, six games to one. He followed up with his first singles win, winning in two sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-4. He added two more wins on Saturday against York (Pa.), first with a 6-1 win in doubles. He closed out his weekend with a two-set win in singles, 6-0 and 6-2.

    Women: Ava Niggemeier (Catholic University)
    Niggemeier completed the first weekend of the season, going 4-0 with a string of dominant victories. She started off with a doubles win against Dickinson, winning six of the seven games to help earn the doubles point for Catholic. She also played in the number six singles spot and earned a win in two sets, 6-2 and 6-1. She followed up on Saturday with a doubles win in the number two spot against York (Pa.) by a 6-3 score. She picked up a singles win later in the day against St. Mary's (Md.) in two sets, 6-0 and 6-2, to help the Cardinals secure a victory.
