Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

For the fall season, field hockey, football, soccer, and volleyball will be announced on Monday, followed by cross country, golf, and tennis on Tuesday.

  • Offensive: Emily Caporrino (Drew University)
    Caporrino netted two goals, including the game-winner in double overtime, to lead Drew past Western Connecticut, 3–2. She scored late in the third quarter to put the Rangers ahead 2–1, then delivered again in the second overtime with her eighth goal of the season and third game-winner.

    Defensive: Beth Kelly (Drew University)
    Kelly anchored the Rangers’ defense with a 1.37 goals-against average and a .893 save percentage across two wins. She posted 17 saves in the double-overtime thriller at Western Connecticut, five coming in the first extra period and two more in the second. She added eight saves in Drew’s 2–1 Landmark-opening win at Goucher, allowing only a penalty-stroke goal.

  • Offensive: Dylan Jackson (Western Connecticut State)
    Jackson threw for 337 yards and five touchdowns in WestConn’s 38–7 win at Kean, completing 26 of 43 passes with scoring strikes of 3, 6, 14, 19, and 52 yards.

    Defensive: Cohen Creswell (Wilkes University)
    Creswell sealed Wilkes’ 24–21 victory at Montclair State with a strip sack in the final seconds as the Red Hawks threatened. He finished with 10 tackles, including two for loss, to lead the Colonels’ defense.

    Specialist: Nick Volpone (Wilkes University)
    Volpone drilled the game-winning 26-yard field goal with 41 seconds left to lift Wilkes over Montclair State. He was also perfect on the day, going 3-for-3 on extra points.

  • Offensive: Preston Rushmore (University of Scranton)
    Rushmore netted the game-winner in Scranton’s 2–0 Landmark victory over Susquehanna to open conference play with three points.

    Defensive: Jace Bennett (Lycoming College)
    Bennett kept Lycoming even with No. 18 Catholic, making six saves in a 1–1 draw with the defending Landmark champions.

  • Offensive: Skylar Mumford (Elizabethtown College)
    Mumford scored in both of the Blue Jays’ wins. She tallied her third goal of the year to close out a 3–1 victory over DeSales, then struck again at Wilkes with the lone goal in a 1–0 win.

    Defensive: Riley Block (Lycoming College)
    Block posted a career-high 12 saves to shut out Catholic in a 1–0 win, giving the Warriors a school-record 10th straight victory. It was her second shutout of the year.

  • Athlete: Deanna Whelpley (University of Scranton)
    Whelpley powered the Royals’ attack with 47 kills over 10 sets during a three-match stretch. She opened with 14 kills on .233 hitting in a sweep of Suffolk, followed with 15 kills at a .222 clip against Swarthmore, and closed with 18 kills in a four-set battle with Stockton.

    Defensive: Jessica Sack (Susquehanna University)
    Sack was productive at the Eastern University Tournament, racking up 49 digs over seven sets for a 7.00 per set average. She tallied 15 against the host Eagles before piling up a career-best 34 against Immaculata. She additionally had three service aces on the weekend.
