Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

For the spring season, baseball, softball, and lacrosse will be announced on Monday, followed by golf, tennis, and outdoor track and field on Tuesday.

  • Men's Golf Athlete of the Week: Richard Essen (University of Scranton)
    Essen led the University of Scranton men’s golf team to the team title at the DeSales Invitational, earning individual medalist honors in the process. He opened with a 75 (+3) to place himself among the leaders before surging in the final round. He fired a two-under par 70, highlighted by a spectacular hole-out eagle on the 14th hole, to finish with a 145 (+1) and secure the individual title by two strokes. Essen followed up that performance with an eighth-place finish at the Lebanon Valley Invitational, shooting a 78 (+6).

    Women's Golf Athlete of the Week: Kennedy Petrovich (Susquehanna University)
    Petrovich led the team on Saturday with a 71 (-1), finishing the day in first place and tying her own school record. She followed it up with a 77 (+5) on day two, claiming the individual title with a 148 (+4) total. She recorded six birdies overall, with five coming in the opening round.

  • Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week: Daniel Arcari (Drew University)
    Arcari posted a combined 4-0 record, going 2-0 at No. 1 doubles and 2-0 at No. 2 singles in a 2-0 week for the Rangers. He started by winning 7-6 (7-0) with doubles partner Jesse Faro while also notching a 6-0, 7-6 (7-1) singles win in a 5-2 victory at Lebanon Valley. He followed up with a 6-2 singles win and a 6-1, 6-0 doubles victory in Drew's 5-2 triumph over Susquehanna.

    Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week: Annie Nemoy (Catholic University)
    Nemoy had an impressive 4-0 week. Against Goucher, she went 2-0, winning in doubles, 6-4 with partner Shloka Tambat, in the one spot. In the two singles spot, she defeated her opponent in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Against Juniata, Nemoy once again partnered up with Tambat in the one spot, winning 6-2. In the two singles spot, Nemoy took down her opponent in straight sets, winning 6-0, 6-3.

     

  • Men's Track Athlete of the Week: Dominic Santos (Susquehanna University)
    Santos had a great showing across three events at the Jim Taylor Duals. He competed in the 100m (10.90) and 200m (21.97) events, taking first place in both races. He was also part of the 4x100 relay team that won with an AARTFC-qualifying time of 42.04.

    Men's Field Athlete of the Week: Zach Mogambi (Drew University)
    Mogambi won the discus at the Battle of Madison, hosted by FDU-Florham, with a throw of 46.85 meters (153-8), a mark that leads the Landmark Conference by nearly nine feet on the season performance list.

    Women's Track Athlete of the Week: Brigid Byrnes (Catholic University)
    Byrnes topped the field in the 400m hurdles at the Seahawk Invitational with a time of 1:05.18. Her time currently ranks first in the Landmark Conference this season and 24th nationally, and fourth in the Metro Region.

    Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Isabella Cowger (Elizabethtown College)
    Cowger placed in the top three in all three throwing events she contested, while also setting a new school and conference discus record on Saturday at the Lebanon Valley Blue & White Open. Cowger set a new personal record in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw; winning the discus with her record throw of 44.72m (146'9"). She was second in the shot put at 11.86m and third in the hammer throw at 40.91m.
