TOWSON, Md. - As the Landmark Conference counts down to the start of the 2026-27 academic year, the Conference will revisit some of the best stories from its member institutions through the Landmark Rewind series.
Running August 3-14, Landmark Rewind will spotlight one Landmark institution each weekday by featuring two stories originally produced by that school's athletics department. From student-athlete features and championship moments to community impact and campus initiatives, the series gives fans another opportunity to discover the people and programs that make the Landmark Conference special before fall competition begins.
A rising program for Catholic athletics over the past few seasons, the women’s tennis team has qualified for the Landmark Conference tournament each of the past three seasons, the first time the program has done so in three or more consecutive seasons since 2013-16. The Cardinals have reached the semifinals in each of the past two seasons, including finishing in a tie for first place in the regular season during the 2026 spring season. A huge impact on the team’s success in the 2025-26 season came from a special freshman, Annie Nemoy, whose contributions not only brought team success but also helped rewrite the program's record books.
Nemoy immediately found a slot in the Catholic lineup from the second she stepped onto campus, playing in the number one spot in doubles throughout the year and playing in the top spot or at number two in singles. In total, she amassed 19 wins while playing doubles, often with Shloka Tambat as her partner, as the pair won 15 matches together throughout the season. Nemoy added 14 more singles wins, bringing her season total to 34. Her efforts were good enough to earn First Team All-Landmark in singles and Second Team All-Landmark in doubles, becoming just the 11th player in program history to earn First Team honors as a singles player.
“You can never perfectly project someone's first year, as college can be a big adjustment, but I was very impressed with Annie's first season,” said head coach Nate Farlow. “Not only did she have a historic year on court, but her leadership, humbleness, and work ethic continued to improve our atmosphere and show what it is to be a part of Cardinal Tennis!”
Nemoy’s numbers were unprecedented for a Catholic student-athlete, let alone a freshman. She now holds the program’s single-season record in total wins, doubles wins, and number one doubles wins. She and Tambat also recorded the most wins by a doubles pairing at number one in a single season in Catholic history.
“The experience she has is going to have an incredible impact not only on herself but her teammates,” said Farlow. Now knowing the landscape of our program, we have pinpointed where she can take her next jump to grow individually and have another great year as a sophomore. She was able to learn from Ella and Shloka's freshman campaign that finished with a rookie of the year award; now Annie can give her experience to this next group and help them achieve to their highest ability.”
Nemoy also had her success span into the postseason as she earned victories at number one doubles and number one singles against Moravian in the Landmark semifinals. She was also a part of the program’s fifth-ever win in the Landmark Conference tournament in a convincing 4-0 win over Juniata in the first round. She looks poised to have a major impact on the program throughout her career with the Cardinals and continue to drive for the program’s first Landmark championship.
