TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.
During the fall season, football, field hockey, soccer, and volleyball will be announced on Monday, and cross country, golf, and tennis will be announced on Tuesday.
Field Hockey Offensive: Sophia Prata (Susquehanna University)
Prata scored four goals over two games last week. She scored a hat-trick against King's (Pa.) before adding her fourth goal of the week in a 5-3 win against conference opponent Drew on Saturday.
Field Hockey Defensive: Kari Schmidt (Susquehanna University)
Schmidt and the SU defense were a force last week. The junior defender anchored a unit that allowed just one goal and six total combined shots in the River Hawks's two games. She also added one goal and one assist.
Football Offensive: Josh Ehrlich (Susquehanna University)
Ehrlich was instrumental in the comeback win for the River Hawks against #10 Cortland. He threw for 227 yards (16-of-22) with three passing touchdowns. On the ground, he took off for 19 rushes for a game-high 162 yards and one rushing score. Behind 35-21 with five minutes remaining on Cortland's 44, Ehrlich sparked the comeback with his best run of the day for 30 yards that set up a 12-yard touchdown pass to Rowen Hershey to make it 35-28. Getting the ball back with two minutes left, Ehrlich threw a jump ball to Kyle Howes down the left side, which Howes caught one-handed to tie the game. The Red Dragons fumbled the ensuing kickoff, which Susquehanna recovered at Cortland's 32, prompting Ehrlich to lead a game-winning drive to set up Christian Colasurdo's game-winning field goal.
Football Defensive: Aidan Long (Catholic University)
Senior corner Aidan Long clinched a massive road non-conference victory for Catholic at SUNY Morrisville on Saturday afternoon, returning an interception 79 yards for a score with 25 seconds left in a 24-20 game. Long finished the game with three tackles and a pass break-up.
Football Specialist: Dominic Winn (Susquehanna University)
Winn recovered two fumbles on special teams, the first on a punt return in the third quarter, which led to a 14-yard Josh Ehrlich rushing touchdown. He then recovered the crucial fumble late in the game on a kick return with the game tied at 35-35, which set up the walkoff field goal by Christian Colasurdo as time expired.
Men's Soccer Offensive: Gordie Bernlohr (Catholic University)
Bernlohr had a hand in four of Catholic's six goals in a 2-1 week. Against Randolph-Macon last Tuesday, Bernlohr scored twice, including the brace in the 3-0 home win. Against Christopher Newport, the senior assisted on two of the Cardinal's three goals to help Catholic clinch the 3-0 win.
Men's Soccer Defensive: Nick Kinzler (Wilkes University)
Kinzler made five saves during a 0-0 draw with Keystone College on Tuesday and then stopped seven more shots during a 1-1 tie with Rutgers-Camden on Saturday. He posted a .923 save percentage and a 0.50 goals-against-average for the week with 12 total saves.
Women's Soccer Offensive: Emily Wertz (Susquehanna University)
Wertz tallied seven points for the River Hawks. In the 3-0 shutout against DeSales, Wertz had a hand in all three goals, netting two goals on five shots and adding an assist on the third goal. She scored her third goal of the week against Grove City on Saturday.
Women's Soccer Defensive: Nicole Olson (University of Scranton)
Olsen made nine saves and conceded just one goal for the Royals last week to post a .900 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average. She turned away all three shots she faced in a 3-0 win over Penn State Berks on Wednesday and then helped guide the Royals to a tough 1-1 draw at Stevens on Saturday as she made all six of her saves in the final 45 minutes to help keep things even at one apiece after Scranton had tied the game in the 63rd minute. In fact, five of Olson's six saves came after the tying goal.
Volleyball: Halie Murphy (Catholic University)
Sophomore Outside Hitter Halie Murphy was a force this week for Catholic as the Cardinals went 2-1, defeating Eastern Mennonite and Gwynedd Mercy in straight sets while going toe-to-toe with a tough Stevenson squad on the road. For the week, Murphy totaled 49 kills (4.90/set) while hitting .308. Murphy had at least 11 kills in every match and hit .280 or better in every match. Murphy was also strong defensively, adding eight blocks on the week.
