Ashley Derrick ’25 not only graduated this spring from Susquehanna University with her degree in Elementary Education but also wrapped up an outstanding student-athlete career in field hockey and swimming, earning All-Landmark accolades in both.
As the starting goalkeeper for “SUFH” over her junior and senior seasons, the team captured back-to-back Landmark Conference championships, with Derrick’s superb performance in the cage earning her the 2023 Landmark Tournament MVP, along with Second Team All-Landmark. She again racked up All-Landmark as an Honorable Mention in another championship campaign in 2024.

Derrick initially committed to Susquehanna to play field hockey for head coach Allison Fordyce. She also was a swimmer in high school as a standout backstroker. After some encouragement from Coach Fordyce, Derrick went out for the swim team. It paid off as she became a driving force for the program, finishing Second Team All-Landmark in the 100-yard backstroke and Honorable Mention in the 200-yard freestyle relay at the 2025 Swimming Championships. She added these honors after earning Honorable Mention in the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay in 2024.

Her academics matched her athletic excellence, becoming a CSC Academic All-District Team choice in both sports, along with mentions to the NFHCA and CSCAA All-Academic Teams. A member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Ashley was chosen to represent Susquehanna at the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum in Bethesda, Md. She is set to add college coach to her resume as she was recently selected to become the Assistant Swim Coach at Juniata College, staying within the Landmark Conference.

“Susquehanna is known for its welcoming atmosphere and incredible education department,” said Derrick. “I was honored with the opportunity to be a dual-sport athlete for my collegiate career. I was also provided with many opportunities to strengthen my leadership skills by attending the NCAA National leadership convention. Susquehanna has been a great resource to use for personal development.”

“It was such a privilege to coach Ashley,” related Coach Fordyce. “Her work ethic and commitment to excellence is unmatched. Perhaps what sets her apart is what a great teammate she is! She has the ability to elevate the team's level of play by pushing herself and her teammates, while still being warm and compassionate. She was a driving force behind our championship seasons and she will be missed on the field and in the locker room. I am so proud of her and excited to see her begin her coaching career at fellow Landmark school Juniata.
