TOWSON, Md. - Behind two winter conference championships, The University of Scranton maintained its lead in the 2022-23 Landmark Conference Presidents' Trophy standings.
The Trophy is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions for regular-season conference standings as well as results in Landmark postseason competition. The point structure was revised in the summer of 2016 with different point hierarchies for the team and individual sports, but the maximum number of points any team can earn is 15. The total number of points each institution earns is divided by the number of Landmark sports sponsored to determine the average.
The Royals continued its success from the fall season into the winter campaign, winning both the men's and women's basketball conference championships, and producing a runner-up finish at both the women's swimming and diving, and indoor track and field championships.
Catholic University held steady in second place at the conclusion of the winter season. The Cardinals swept the men's and women's swimming and diving championships and were the runner-up at the men's indoor track and field championship. The men's basketball team finished in a tie for first after the regular season and made a trip to the Landmark postseason. The women's basketball team also earned bonus points after qualifying for the conference tournament.
Susquehanna University jumped one place, going from fourth to third after the winter season. Of the six sponsored winter sports, the River Hawks won two conference championships in men's and women's indoor track and field, made a trip to the men's basketball postseason after earning the No. 1 seed, and finished in the top five in men's and women's swimming and diving.
Elizabethtown College finished fourth in the Presidents' Trophy standings. The women's basketball team finished second in the standings after the regular season and finished as runner-up in the conference tournament. They also had a top-five finish at the men's indoor track and field championships, placing third.
Moravian University finished fifth in the standings, followed by Drew University in sixth, Juniata College in seventh, and Goucher College in eighth.
