Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

For the fall season, field hockey, football, soccer, and volleyball will be announced on Monday, followed by cross country, golf, and tennis on Tuesday.

  • Men: Derick Blair (Susquehanna University)
    Blair won the Lehigh Paul Short Run (Green Race 8K) with a personal-best time of 25:15.8, the third-fastest in program history, and finished 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up. His mark also ranks third in the conference this season.

    Women: Tara Smurla (Moravian University)
    Smurla led Moravian to a 31st-place team finish at Lehigh’s Paul Short Run (White Race), placing 23rd of 403 runners. She clocked a season-best 21:52.0 on the 6K course, the top time in the Landmark this year.

  • Men: Liam Larkin (Drew University)
    Larkin earned medalist honors at the DeSales Invitational, shooting a 2-under 142 (71–71) for his second career victory. He carded eight birdies over the tournament, with five in the opening round, and led Drew to a third-place team finish (610) among 11 teams.

    Women: Heidi Wegscheider (Moravian University)
    Wegscheider averaged 79.3 over three rounds, earning medalist honors and setting a program record for lowest round. She shot an 81 with two birdies and seven pars to lead Moravian to a tri-match win over Marywood and Misericordia, then tied for fourth (157) at the Golden Oaks Shootout. Her second-round 74, featuring three birdies and 11 pars, marked the best round in program history.

  • Offensive: Emma Campitelli (Susquehanna University)
    Campitelli came through in the clutch this week, scoring two game-winning goals for Susquehanna. She netted the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Marywood, then delivered the winner against Elizabethtown at the 60-minute mark.

    Defensive: Ella Bowman (Catholic University)
    Bowman anchored Catholic in goal for its first conference matchup of the season, helping the Cardinals earn a 2-1 double-overtime win against Moravian. Bowman made eight saves, including two on penalty strokes, and a diving stop in overtime to keep the game alive.

  • Offensive: Terrence Oliver (Lycoming College)
    Oliver powered Lycoming’s offense, rushing a career-high 36 times for 194 yards and a touchdown in a 17-0 win over Moravian. He added three catches for 22 yards, finishing with 216 all-purpose yards.

    Defensive: Christon Mitchell-Brown (Lycoming College)
    Mitchell-Brown led a dominant defensive effort in Lycoming’s 17-0 shutout of Moravian. He recorded five tackles and a strip sack, helping hold the Greyhounds to just 108 total yards.

    Specialist: Nick Volpone (Wilkes University)
    Volpone was perfect once again for Wilkes, going 3-for-3 on field goals in the Colonels’ 15-13 win over Catholic. He connected twice from 34 yards and once from 27 to secure the victory.

  • Offensive: Tyler King (Moravian University)
    King scored twice on three shots in Moravian’s 3-0 win over Marywood, including the game-winning goal, to lead the Greyhounds’ attack.

    Defensive: Casey Prajzner (Moravian University)
    Prajzner posted 10 saves and a shutout over 180 minutes of play last week. He notched his fourth clean sheet of the season in the 3-0 win over Marywood, then made 10 saves in a 1-1 draw with Catholic.

  • Offensive: Ella Magee (Lycoming College)
    Magee tallied three goals and an assist as Lycoming extended its school-record winning streak to 12. She scored twice and added an assist, including the game-winner, in an 8-0 victory over Elmira, then opened the scoring in a 3-1 win against Drew.

    Defensive: Aileen Carr (University of Scranton)
    Carr anchored a dominant Scranton back line that held No. 25 NYU to just three shots on goal in a scoreless draw. She capped the week with a milestone moment, scoring her first collegiate goal in a 6-0 win over Goucher.

  • Athlete: Lucy Stanek (Elizabethtown College)
    Stanek led Elizabethtown to a 2-1 week, averaging 5.06 points, 4.56 kills, and 3.33 digs per set. She recorded team highs in kills in all three matches and posted two double-doubles on Saturday, totaling 16 kills and 12 digs against Penn State–Hazleton and 19 kills and 10 digs against Penn State–Altoona.

  • Men: Lorenzo Neri (Catholic University)
    Neri earned three wins at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships, the most of any Landmark player on the weekend, and became the first Catholic men’s player ever to win a singles match at the event. He defeated St. Mary’s 6-1, 6-1 in the championship singles draw and added two doubles wins over Moravian and Roanoke in the B bracket.

    Women: Medina Yessenaliyeva (Juniata College)
    Yessenaliyeva was flawless in singles play last week. She won 6-3, 6-0 at Allegheny, then didn’t drop a game in Juniata’s 6-1 victory over Penn College, winning 6-0, 6-0 at first singles and 6-0 at first doubles.
