TOWSON, Md. - After a big fall season, The University of Scranton sits in first place in the Presidents' Trophy race. The Royals picked up two conference titles, finished second in another sport, and added strong showings across the rest of their fall slate to set the pace heading into winter.
The trophy is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions for regular-season conference standings and results in Landmark postseason competition. The total points earned by each institution are divided by the number of Landmark sports sponsored, determining the average.
Presidents' Trophy History
Scranton set the tone with an 11.67-point average, finishing no lower than fifth in any fall sport. Field hockey, men's soccer, and women's soccer all finished at the top of the league standings, highlighted by postseason championships for field hockey and women's soccer and a semifinal appearance for men's soccer. Volleyball, which finished second in the league standings, added three bonus points for a runner-up finish in the volleyball championship, while the cross-country teams rounded out the Fall season with the women placing third and the men fifth.
Defending Presidents' Trophy champion Catholic University currently sits second with a 9.52-point average. The Cardinals finished second in the league standings in men's soccer and went on to win the men's soccer championship to add five extra points. In women's soccer and volleyball, the Cardinals finished third in the league standings, earning two bonus points for the volleyball postseason semifinals, and three for the women's soccer runner-up finish. On the cross-country course, Catholic took second in both the men's and women's races.
Susquehanna University sits third in the standings with an 8.79-point average. The River Hawks celebrated their third consecutive league football title after another undefeated conference slate. In the fall women's sports, women's soccer finished inside the top five of the regular-season standings, while volleyball wrapped up the regular season tied for fourth. The field hockey team, which finished second in the standings, earned three bonus points for its runner-up finish in the championship game. Women's soccer and volleyball each added two bonus points for reaching the semifinals. On the cross-country course, the men's team earned eight points for a fourth-place finish, while the women took seven points after finishing fifth.
Moravian University and Elizabethtown College round out the top five. Moravian wrapped up the fall with an 8.02 scoring average behind a dominant showing from its cross country programs, sweeping both the men's and women's titles. The Greyhounds also earned bonus points with a men's soccer semifinal run and a volleyball postseason appearance after finishing third in men's soccer and tying for fourth in volleyball during the regular season.
Elizabethtown posted a 7.08 scoring average thanks to a consistent fall across the board. The Blue Jays placed in the top five in field hockey, volleyball, and women's soccer, and collected two bonus points in field hockey for reaching the semifinals. Women's soccer and volleyball each added another bonus point for their postseason berths.
Separated by only .01 points, Lycoming College (5.93) and Drew University (5.92) come in at sixth and seventh. Juniata College (4.43), Wilkes University (4.36), and Goucher College (3.50) round out the standings.
